Goldilocks and the Three Bears
Our story this week is the infamous Goldilocks and her porridgy encounter with the three bears…
Play:
- Porridge platter! Have lots of different toppings (like grated apple, peanut butter, cocoa powder, cake sprinkles, golden syrup, cinnamon) and if you were goldilocks, what would your ‘perfect’ porridge be?!
- Can you gather some stuffed toy bears (go on a bear hunt!) ready for the story? A big daddy bear, a middle sized mummy bear and a little baby bear?
Arts and Crafts:
- I think you have to pay to download some of these resources, but if you scroll down the page a little there’s a picture of a ‘nose headband’ for a bear and a goldilocks ‘hair headband’ which I’m going to have a go at crafting! https://www.kidssoup.com/activity/goldilocks-and-the-three-bears-activities-crafts-and-printables
- This is quite a sweet idea for making Goldilocks and the three bears out of toilet rolls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ETVuVevS5k
- Realistically I don’t think I’m going to make this, and I reckon this is by far more of a project for a parent than arts and crafts for a little person to do, but I have to share this, as HOW EXCELLENT IS THIS PAPER COSTUME?! https://www.parents.com/holiday/halloween/costumes/goldilocks-and-the-three-bears-costumes/
Music:
- On a bear theme, on Spotify you can find ‘we’re going on a bear hunt (original motion picture soundtrack) music if you search for it, and it’s gorgeous instrumental soundtrack performed by the City of London Sinfonia. You could also read ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and listen to the music too and do some dancing through the forest/mud/cave etc…
Watching:
- A vintage reading of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes version (c. 5 minutes long, a bit crackly as converted from VHS) – https://youtu.be/BO2Ivw2S-BQ
- Very cute 1 minute BBC Earth video of baby bears : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdlNLRag0GE
Reading:
- Not quite reading, but here’s Michael Rosen himself performing his famous beary tail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gyI6ykDwds
Active:
- Not my usual cosmic yoga link, but here’s a little Goldilocks yoga story video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5jwPguqHnc (just 7 minutes long)
- Oh and here’s Cosmic Yoga going on a bear hunt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAT5NiWHFIU (15 minutes)
Educational (probably best for slightly older kids):
- Goldilocks crossword at https://www.dltk-teach.com/rhymes/goldilocks/cross-word.htm
- And Twinkl of course is a big resource of worksheets, colouring and activity ideas!
